DEV-TALK

0. intro

hi-hi!~ lily's here!~ <3

i am the lead developer of HEATED SHIFTS: BACK IN HEAT (and the previous game), and the lead-lead of HEATED_red. if you happen to have any questions regarding the game at all, this post will, hopefully, serve as definitive answers to your questions and concerns before your final purchase!~

so, to start off,

1. what is BACK IN HEAT and what does it EXACTLY aim to be?

BACK IN HEAT is, as previously described, meant to be a hybrid between a simulator-like game, and a visual-novel. i, myself, am a huge fan and consumer of visual-novel games, specifically nsfw-type deals (duh).

with BACK IN HEAT, i wanted to mix both styles: the simulator-like mechanics, and some of the dialogue sections from visual-novels.

however, i didn't want to simply stick to one genre and one idea. for that exact same reason, BACK IN HEAT is a hybrid of both of these sub-genres, but it never drags as much as either of them, specially the visual-novels.

for a long time now, i've had a very divisive (sorta) opinion on visual-novels, and just how much they tend to drag with useless dialogue building up to what i really wanted to see. so, i wanted to try a slightly different and quicker format, getting rid of all of those moments almost entirely and filling those empty spots with far more happening that i'd love to have seen.

BACK IN HEAT is meant to be a straight-forward game you'll go back to fairly often once you're done with the main story (which isn't the main focus, it simply serves for the scenes happening).

almost every single game animation and level is meant to be replayed, in the sense that you'll like to, from time to time, go back to and replay some of these levels once you're in the mood for them.

2. how long is the game itself?

due to the hybrid nature of the game, i really can't say for sure. it really depends on how interested you are in some of these segments.

the dialogue-filled areas of the game are not AS long as any other visual-novel, and tend to go straight to the point, which was a key focus of the game: being straight-forward, as previously stated, and replayable.

these dialogue sections can be easily skipped, and fairly often you'll reach an interactive, simulator-like level that's designed to be played with a single hand.

back to the point however, i can't say for sure how long the actual game is. but it is fairly replayable, and that was the whole point. there is definitely a whole lot going on in the game, from fully-animated scenes to multiple kink-focused dialogue, and so much more.

3. will there be any post-game dlc or new updates?

this is something i can't quite say for sure. however, it is very likely i'll be going back to this game from time to time to maybe add something new or give some scenes a fresh new look, or something like that. however, for now, there are no plans for such thing at all.

4. can you name every single kink BACK IN HEAT features?

it is actually a very long listing of kinks. each level tries to give each its respective time to shine, although don't expect the game to go so far with any of them. it is meant to be very straight-forward, but it is definitely worth your purchase.

the following kinks listed are a part of the game (they aren't listed in chronological order):

pregnancy, parent roles, anal/bdsm, cheating, face-sitting, hand/blowjobs, bf/gf (love relationship), jealousy, sub/dom dynamic, overstimulation, twerking/flashing, makeout/kissing, oversized/thick, and a few more i most likely forgot about.

5. why is it one-handed, and does this heavily affect the gameplay at all?

if you've played the first game, you most likely know what to expect. however, it is far more expanded this time around, and it doesn't affect the game at all.

it is a whole lot more complex, and does feature some variation (specially near the end of the game), and some missing key features the first game sadly did not implement at all.

the whole reason why the game is one-handed should be obvious. you know exactly what you'll most likely be doing with your other hand (duh), but the game WILL need your other hand for some very specific key areas.

now, some restatements:

6. is the game 2d?

yes, due to the visual-novel nature of the game.

7. is this being made by a single developer?

yes, the whole game was developed by a single girl, with some light help from other people.

8. will my money be worth the purchase?

i can't say for sure, but i really do hope so! although the game may ultimately seem very short, you'll find a lot of satisfaction from it thanks to the replayability it offers. you'll know exactly what i'm hinting at if you do purchase the game.

9. outro

that's mostly it. i really hope this does help you decide on your purchase!~ if you happen to have any other questions that aren't featured here, please let me know and i'll be sure to reply very soon!~

this game was a blast to work on (it made me so wet-), and definitely is a passion project at that. i'm very thankful for all of the support you guys have given me while it was in development, and it means so much to me. so big thank you to all of you!~ this wouldn't have happened without you. <3
